Dog Boarding Facilities in Virginia

We made arrangements for APC to care for our 2 large dogs over christmas. I spoke with the person assigned to us, and told her about my animals. I wanted her to come over a few times before we left so the dogs could get used to her. She came over for the orientation and everything was fine. I told her that my lab mix would most likely bark and possibly growl at her when she came alone. I mentioned that I could run home if there was a problem with the dogs. She brushed it off saying that all dogs react that way, and she has been doing this for 15 years. She decided that she would only need 2 visits prior to our departure and we set up a date for her to come during the day. The first time she came over she wrote us a note that said it did not go well. She said that the lab mix barked at her and wouldn't listen to her, and she didn't even bother to let the second dog out of his crate. She then said she was uncomfortable committing to watching them over christmas, which was the next week. I was very upset that we had made reservations far in advance with a reputable company and then we were suddenly left with nobody to watch our dogs with 1 week until christmas. The part that upset me the most was that the company never attempted to contact us and assign us another sitter to rectify the situation. They just left us high and dry and I had to scramble at the last minute to find something to do with the dogs, or cancel our holiday plans. I understand that sometimes it might not work out with a particular pet sitter, but the company did NOTHING to attempt to find us someone else. My lab mix is a very sweet dog and has had many different babysitters, and never had such a problem. view short comment
