Dog Boarding Facilities in Oregon

I have left my dog at countryside many times over the past 6 years. My dog loves it there, the people are wonderful and the dogs have lots of play times. It's clean and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I visited this kennel during business hours just to investigate it, to see if it was a good kennel to leave our dogs on while away on a trip. When we arrived, there was no one else there except for the owners and ourselves. We were told that we would have to call at a later date to schedule a tour of the kennel. Please keep in mind that La Grande is a very small community and this kennel is also very small and only open for an hour and a half a day, six days a week. A viewing of the kennel would probably take no more than two minutes and it should not be such an extraordinary request. We asked the owner if her's was the type of kennel where the dogs were kept in cages, or if they had free roaming access to the concrete dog runs that are in plain view of their gravel parking area? She was very hesitant to answer our question and we thought that this was strange since La Grande is a very small and friendly place. She told us that the dogs are kept inside of locked kennels except for twice a day when she and her husband come to let them outside into the fenced grass yard area that you can also see from the gravel parking area. She made no mention of the concrete dog runs but she did confirm that the dogs are only accepted into their kennel if they are house broken because the dogs are not allowed outside of their kennels except for when she and her husband let them out twice a day and they do not like "messes" in their kennels. I was able to peek my head around the corner of her door and see into the kennel area. The kennels were very small, each just large enough for one dog to lay in and they are just kennels inside of a concrete room with no outside access. In fact I saw a large dog standing inside of one of the locked kennels and the kennel was indeed, just large enough for that dog to stand or lay in. The kennel room also smelled strongly of dog odor. For us we were not impressed with the 'secrecy' and also the fact that the dogs were kept locked in a kennel except for two potty breaks a day. We are going to look into other options such as having a neighbor to look in on our dogs while we are away. I wanted to leave this review though to let others know what we found out, because there are no reviews for this establishment anywhere on the internet. I should also add that their hours are from 8:30am to 10:00am, Monday through Saturday and also from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday through Saturday. They are not open at all on Sundays and you are also not allowed to pick up or drop off your animals at all on Sundays. Hopefully this review will help others with their trip planning. view short comment
