Dog Boarding Facilities in Hawaii

WARNING- DO NOT USE THIS BOARDING/DAYCARE FACILITY!!!! We have a 4.5 month old Alaskan Malamute Puppy. We trusted April Warwick and William Smith(Animal Daycare and Boarding) to properly care for our puppy while we were on vacation since their business is daycare and boarding for dogs. On the 1st day that our dog was being boarded/cared for, he was viciously attacked by an aggressive dog and his right front arm was severely injured. He is actually lucky that he did not lose his arm! This aggressive dog had been permitted into this facility for boarding and the daycare providers had placed this dog in a "shed" in the back yard of their facility in a kennel. The aggressive dog proceeded to knock his head and body repeatedly against the gate of the kennel, broke the latch open and ran out of the kennel (in the shed), and proceeded to attack our dog in the yard... seriously injuring him. Our dog was pinned up against a fence and unable to get away or even fight back. Evidently, we were told, that the daycare people had a hard time even getting this dog off of our dog because there was "little to no" supervision of the dogs who were out in the yard! To make matters worse, I was NEVER notified by April Warwick or William Smith(Animal Daycare & Boarding) of the incident. I just "happened" to call to check on my dog before leaving town and was THEN notified of the horrific accident which had happened 2 HOURS EARLIER. Further, my dog was not even taken to our own personal veterinarian which should be standard protocol in a situation such as this, but instead, was taken to a vet that April Warwick personally chose. I was told one story about the incident and what had happened, while the owner of the dog that attacked, was told another. Both of us were extremely bothered by the fact that her stories were inconsistent and her version of the story appeared to change as the minutes and hours passed! The irresponsibility on the part of April Warwick and William Smith (Animal Daycare & Boarding) is inexcusable. They took NO RESPONSIBILITY for this accident and it should be standard operating procedure to screen dogs for behavior issues and aggressive tendencies BEFORE accepting them into a daycare/boarding facility. This business/people should NOT be permitted to run a doggie daycare or boarding facility for any animal until they are completely checked out and cleared by Alaska Animal Control as well as the ASPCA to determine if their safety practices and means of screening dogs are approved and appropriate. The supervision of these dogs that are in their care should also be scrutinized to prevent this from happening to any other animal in the future. Therefore, if you are a dog/animal lover as we are and you value the life and health of your dog, I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT USE Animal Daycare and Boarding until they change their business practices and until they have been cleared for using appropriate safety practices regarding the welfare and animals that are in their care. view short comment
